What Countries Aren`t in the Paris Agreement
The Paris Agreement, signed in 2015, is an international treaty aimed at combating climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The agreement has been signed by 197 countries and ratified by 189 of them.
However, there are a few countries that have not signed the Paris Agreement or have signed but not ratified it. These countries include:
1. Eritrea: This African country is the only country in the world that has not signed the Paris Agreement. Eritrea`s government has not provided any reasons for this decision.
2. Iran: Iran signed the Paris Agreement in 2016 but has not yet ratified it. The country has been facing economic sanctions from the United States, which may have contributed to its delay.
3. Iraq: Iraq signed the Paris Agreement in 2016 but has not yet ratified it. The country is facing environmental challenges such as desertification, water scarcity, and air pollution.
4. Libya: Libya signed the Paris Agreement in 2016 but has not yet ratified it. The country has been facing political instability and civil war since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011.
5. South Sudan: South Sudan is the youngest country in the world, having gained independence in 2011. The country has not signed or ratified the Paris Agreement, and its government is focused on rebuilding the country after years of conflict.
6. Turkey: Turkey signed the Paris Agreement in 2016 but has not yet ratified it. The country is facing economic challenges and has been focusing on developing its own renewable energy sources.
7. Yemen: Yemen signed the Paris Agreement in 2016 but has not yet ratified it. The country has been facing a humanitarian crisis and a civil war, which have hindered its environmental efforts.
While these countries have not fully committed to the Paris Agreement, it`s important to note that some of them, such as Iran and Turkey, have shown a willingness to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. As the world continues to face environmental challenges, it`s crucial for all countries to work together towards a sustainable future.
